Record number of primary schools students sit our Mathematics Competition

Almost 19,000 young mathematicians take on competition.

Monday 29 August, 2016.

A record number of students and schools across regional New South Wales took part in our Primary School Mathematics competition on Wednesday 24 August 2016. The competition, now in its 36th year began in 1981 with just over 2,000 students and 70 schools and has grown over the years to reach a record 18,800 students and 337 schools in 2016.

The 35-question paper is sat without the use of calculators, rulers or other mathematical instruments over a 45 minute period, challenging the students’ problem solving skills. The top performing students in each region are invited to attend our annual awards presentation to celebrate their achievements with their family and fellow peers.

The Newcastle Permanent Primary School Mathematics Competition is just one way we support the good stuff in our community and help to nurture and challenge young minds.

Congratulations to the all primary school students who completed the exam and special mention to our Competition Director Merv Curran for all his hard work.
