Treat your-elf as Christmas under the Stars returns to King Edward Park

Get ready to spread the Christmas cheer this holiday season as Christmas under the Stars returns to King Edward Park on Saturday 13 December, with a special free screening of Elf (PG, 2003).

The festivities will kick off at 5pm, with Christmas carols performed live by talented local artists including The Roadies, Joy Trio, Matt McLaren, Star Struck and Belmont Dance Centre.

There will be plenty of opportunities for the kids to get into the holiday spirit with numerous free activities, from festive face painting, lawn games, an inflatable soccer target as well as a sustainable craft workshop making DIY tree decorations and Christmas cards. And don't miss the chance to snap a photo at Santa's throne before the man in red himself makes an appearance.

Our spokesperson Paul Juergens said the event was a great way to bring people in the community together during the Christmas period.

"Newcastle Permanent's Christmas under the Stars has become a wonderful date in the calendar that many families look forward to across our Hunter community during the holiday season,” Paul said.

"The live performances, Christmas craft and activities followed by the holiday themed movie sets the night up full of Christmas magic."

Once the sun goes down, the big screen will light up with Buddy's magical adventure from the North Pole to New York to discover who he is.

Make sure to bring a cozy blanket and enjoy the free popcorn as the whole family settles in for a cherished Christmas film full of laughs and heartwarming moments.

"This event is all about embracing the holiday magic and creating special memories, spending a beautiful summer evening singing along to carols performed by amazing local artists before kicking back and watching a classic Christmas film," Paul said.

"Elf is a great fit for Christmas under the Stars as it is such a beloved holiday movie to watch over the festive season. We hope to see families from across the region turn out to what promises to be a wonderful evening."

For those driving in, a free shuttle bus will be available, operating between 4pm-11.59pm from Bar Beach car park – doing continuous loops every 10-15 minutes. See our Facebook page for more details.
