Celebrating the first half of our 2016/17 season

Tuesday 29 November, 2016.

November was a huge month as we hit the road bringing the first half of our Cinema Under the Stars free outdoor cinema program to seven stunning locations throughout regional NSW. Presenting three family-friendly movies across the season; Zootopia, The Good Dinosaur and Kung Fu Panda 3, with free popcorn and entertainment before the movie, families sat back and relaxed while we provided a night of free entertainment.

We hit the road the first weekend of November kicking off in Ballina and Lismore to warm and balmy evenings. The following weekend we headed out west to Orange and Dubbo, after opening our 60th branch this year in Dubbo the event was highly anticipated and did not disappoint. Next stop was Port Macquarie followed by Forster. The Port Macquarie community came out in droves making it their biggest Cinema Under the Stars event to date. To conclude the first half of the season we finished up with another trip out west to treat the local community of Mudgee with a wonderful evening of family fun.

Each event had plenty of entertainment before the movie got underway with circus workshops by Circus in Education where the little ones could get hands on and learn some circus skills. For those who wanted to exert some energy the inflatable football pitch was a great way for children to enjoy friendly games of small-sided football. The talented Stu Larsen toured with us throughout November performing his captivating music at all the beautiful locations we visited. We’d also like to thank our other supporting artists Luke & Sebastian, Gabrielle Flanagan, Grace Fuller and Mark Harding for their fantastic performances.

Newcastle Permanent’s Cinema Under the Stars is now Australia’s largest free regional outdoor cinema program with 16 events across the 2016/17 season. We’ll be back in the New Year returning with a bang at our largest Cinema Under the Stars event at King Edward Park in Newcastle on Saturday 7 January 2017. Visit our Cinema Under the Stars page to find out more information. Thank you to all of our community and media partners and a very special mention to our Event Managers, Be Productions who make the events a success.
