We are replacing Cashcards with Visa Debit cards. Once you receive and activate your Visa Debit card, you can continue using your card as normal.
Your Visa Debit card can access both your transaction account and your linked savings account. The account debited when making a purchase or withdrawing cash will depend on how the transaction is made and processed.
- Within Australia, if you insert your card, you can choose:
- Cheque or Credit to debit your primary account; or
- Savings to debit your linked secondary account;
If you tap your card or use Apple Pay or Google Pay™, the account debited will depend on how the merchant chooses how the contactless payment is processed.
Please note, using Credit for cash withdrawals may attract additional fees. If you want to choose which account is used, insert your card and select Cheque or Savings at the terminal.
If you would like your savings account unlinked from your card, please contact us and we can help.
No. Your linked transaction account will remain the same. You will continue to access your money using the same account.
Cashcards are being phased out as part of an ongoing review of our products and services. Where eligible, customers will be moved to a Visa Debit card to continue accessing the same account. Visa Debit cards offer additional functionality, including contactless payments, online shopping, mobile wallet access and overseas card use. Some features of Visa Debit cards operate differently to Cashcards, including transaction limits and the way some card transactions are processed.
A Visa Debit card is linked to your transaction account and lets you make purchases using your own money wherever Visa is accepted. Visa Debit cards also include additional security features, such as Visa's Zero Liability~ policy.
Your Cashcard will continue to work until the earlier of its expiry date or the date advised in the letter we sent you. If you're eligible for a Visa Debit card, we'll send it to you before your Cashcard is cancelled.
After your Cashcard is cancelled, transactions attempted using your Cashcard will be declined. If you use it at an ATM after it has been cancelled, the ATM may retain the card.
Once you receive your new Visa Debit card, you'll need to activate it before using it. You can activate your card in our app, through Internet Banking, by calling 13 19 87, or by visiting your local branch. For more information about activating your Visa Debit card, see our FAQ.
If you have not activated your new Visa Debit card before your Cashcard is cancelled, you may not be able to make purchases, withdraw cash from ATMs or access other card services until your Visa Debit card is activated. To continue using card services, you will need to activate your new Visa Debit card.
Yes. You'll continue to have access to your money throughout the transition. We recommend activating your Visa Debit card as soon as you receive it so you're ready to use it before your Cashcard stops working. You can continue to access and manage your account through Internet Banking, our app and our branches throughout the transition.
No. Only your card is changing. Your account number, BSB, Internet Banking, our app and your other ways of accessing your account will stay the same.
However, because a Visa Debit card offers additional functionality compared with a Cashcard, some card features operate differently, including transaction limits, temporary transaction holds and the way some disputed transactions are managed. For more information, see here.
There are a number of reasons why you may not have automatically received a Visa Debit card as part of this migration. For example, your Cashcard may not have been activated or used for an extended period, or you may already have a Visa Debit card linked to the same account. If you have any concerns about maintaining card access to your account after your Cashcard is cancelled, please contact us to discuss your options by calling 13 19 87 or visiting your local branch.
