Getting to and from cancer treatment will be a little easier for Lismore patients in 2017, thanks to a $31,900 grant from Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation for a dedicated transport vehicle for the Lismore community.
Cancer Council NSW’s Transport to Treatment service will expand in the New Year, enabling disadvantaged patients in Lismore and surrounding areas to access free transport to their lifesaving cancer treatment at the North Coast Cancer Institute.
Foundation Executive Officer, Graham Batten, said the vehicle would provide a safe, reliable and free transport option for patients and their families.
“Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation is really proud to fund the establishment of Cancer Council NSW’s vital Transport to Treatment service based in Lismore. After funding services on the Mid North Coast and Central West in previous years, we’ve already seen how it can reduce the stress and financial burden on families affected by cancer,” he said.
Rowena Terone, Community Engagement Manager for Cancer Council NSW, said the new service would complement existing transport options and integrate other key cancer support services provided by Cancer Council NSW.
“We recognised the need for a broad, responsive and localised service after working closely with the staff at the North Coast Cancer Institute in Lismore.
