The new $10 retains the images of the two celebrated Australian writers, Dame Mary Gilmore and AB ‘Banjo’ Paterson, but in a new design that incorporates improved security features.
The work of the writers is recognised in several design elements on the note, including images of a pen nib in two of the clear windows and excerpts from their poems No Foe Shall Gather Our Harvest and The Man from Snowy River in microprint.
Newcastle Permanent CEO Terry Millett said new technology used in the $10 note, and previously released $5 note, would make it more difficult to counterfeit.
"The innovative new security features are similar to those in the $5 note issued in 2016, and include the top-to-bottom clear window and the patch with a rolling colour effect," Mr Millett said.
"Aside from the added security, a particularly exciting element of the new note series is the tactile feature to assist vision-impaired people to distinguish different notes. This is sure to improve the experience of the wider community and we’re looking forward to these notes coming into circulation."
