A new scam virus is reportedly targeting mobile banking customers

Friday 11 March, 2016.

There have been recent Australian media reports of malicious software being used to steal banking details from Android™ mobile phones. The malware is designed to mimic the login screens of mobile banking apps, and typically arrives as a link in an SMS or MMS message.

Members are advised to:

  • only install legitimate apps from the applicable app stores
  • never open attachments, click on links or install apps (or software updates) from links in text messages, social media posts, web pages or emails; and
  • be wary of free downloads or links which claim to provide access to websites, footage or other online information
