Cinema Under the Stars is back with a new program

It’s the largest outdoor cinema program of its kind in Australia and this year, our Cinema Under the Stars line-up includes a Lake Macquarie event for the first time! 

It’s been running for 12 seasons and it’s a true family favourite: it’s free, it’s fun and it’s for all ages. Throughout the warmer months, we bring live music, circus workshops, football (soccer) activities and a blockbuster movie all wrapped up in one magical evening to communities across regional NSW. 

CEO Terry Millett said the events had become tradition for many families in regional NSW.

“Cinema Under the Stars is always a hit with the kids (big and little) who enjoy the pre-movie entertainment, music, and activities,” he said.

“I’ve heard so many stories of our Cinema Under the Stars events now being a family tradition; the entire family gathers the picnic rug, brings a picnic dinner, and they share some quality time together. 

The program gives families an opportunity to enjoy a fun, inclusive night out and not have to spend a cent. People are encouraged to pack a picnic and soak up the atmosphere from start to finish. Each event kicks off at 5:30pm with some live music and activities to keep the kids entertained. Everyone is welcome to treat themselves to some free popcorn and as the sun goes down, the big screen lights up!  

A new Lake Macquarie event is not the only change for this year. This season will feature a non-animated movie! To create an even more inclusive event for young and old, we’ve included blockbuster family favourite The Greatest Showman to screen in some locations. Paddington 2 is the other feature film that will light up the big screen and entertain crowds. 

The 2018/19 season will begin in beautiful Ballina on Friday the 2nd of November, followed by Lismore, Port Macquarie, Forster, Orange, Dubbo and Mudgee. A short break in December is needed for the silly season and then back on the road starting with Nelson Bay and rolling out across Newcastle (King Edward Park), Maitland and Central Coast. February will see a visit to Grafton, Coffs Harbour, Tamworth and Armidale. We’ll finish the season with a bang in Lake Macquarie for the inaugural Speers Point Park event.
