Over 7,000 people joined us at King Edward Park.

Wednesday 11 January, 2017.

Cinema Under the Stars was back with a bang as 7,000 people came out to King Edward Park to welcome back the much loved event to Newcastle. It was superb summer evening for families to pack up a picnic and settle in for a night of free family entertainment before the blockbuster animation Zootopia screened at sundown.

Entertainment kicked off with circus workshops by Circus in Education, small sided football with the inflatable football pitch thanks to our partnership with Northern NSW Football and run by Cooks Hill United Junior Football Club. There was also an opportunity to get up close and personal with critters from Blackbutt Reserve and a hands on drumming workshop by Kids on Congas. Two of the much loved characters from the movie; Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps made a special appearance on the night as well as the adored Prime Possum. We kept the good times rolling with live music from Craig Stewart and the five piece band, Lime Coridale before Zootopia lit up on the big screen.

We had a range of fantastic offerings from local food vendors serving up delicious fare to everyone including Cooks Hill Surf Life Saving Club running the community BBQ and other treats such as churros, fairy floss and coffee. Thank you to all our vendors who supported the event. Thank you also to all of our media partners NEWFM and Newcastle Herald for their support. A very special mention to our Event Managers, Be Productions who worked hard behind the scenes to the make the event a success, thank you!
