Here we explain the benefits of PayID and a step-by-step guide to set one up.

PayID is a "smart address" for payments, created by linking an account that you own to a piece of information that you use in everyday life, such as your phone number, email address or ABN.

You can use a PayID to make payments to other people and businesses who have opted in for this service. With PayID, you can send and receive payments easier than ever before, with confidence, to trusted friends, family, and businesses.

When using a PayID to pay someone, you’ll need to enter the PayID details such as phone number, email address or ABN. Once verified, the name of the payee will be returned. Along with the amount you choose to pay, you can also add a detailed description of up to 280 characters (including emojis).

Benefits of using PayID

  1. PayID makes payments an intuitive experience, in a way that is safe and secure;
  2. Greater convenience as you can provide payers with details that are easy to remember, such as an email address or a phone number;
  3. Greater peace of mind, as you no longer have to provide your account information, such as BSB and account number, to payers in order to receive payments;
  4. Services that use PayID display a PayID name before you send a payment as an added level of confirmation that you are sending money to the right person;
  5. Ability to maintain and transfer your PayID details if you change financial institutions.

To register for a PayID

  1. Log on to your Internet Banking or Mobile Banking App and navigate to the Services tab
