These are very strange times that we find ourselves in currently. You may have started off the new decade thinking “2020, you are going to be my year!”, only to have all your exciting plans put on pause. Being stuck inside might leave you feeling the creep of cabin fever, but we can assure you that ISO can still be fun if you make the most of it and get a little creative. We’ve put together some ideas on how you can stay sane and connected during this time.

  1. Get your daily dose of sweat. Following gym closures and restrictions on being outside, try a home workout! There are plenty of fitness apps, YouTube clips and Instagram live videos which can guide you and keep you on track. Hook up with a friend and create your own online challenge. You can even stuff a backpack for some extra resistance training too (considering many stores are sold out of weights at the moment)!
  2. Dinner parties and games nights. Just because you can’t enjoy the company of your friends in person, doesn’t mean you can’t at all! Try and get all your friends together into a video chat - whether it be to have dinner or play a game like Trivia.
  3. Get creative with your culinary skills. This is procrasti-baking at its finest! Check out what’s already in your cupboard to avoid waste and having to leave the house. You can download apps that will let you enter what ingredients you have and provide recipes based off this! Or if there is a fancy dish you’ve been wanting to try, get cooking and don’t forget to post the final result on insta!
  4. Take an online class. If there is a new skill you’ve been wanting to learn, or a course you’ve been eyeing off to help advance your career, now is the perfect time! It will keep your mind active and leave you with a great sense of accomplishment.
  5. Hit the books. You might be feeling a little square eyed from looking at screens day in, day out. Get your hands on some books and read. You can download e-books if you would prefer or order the real deal from an online bookstore if your collection is looking a bit sparse.
  6. Get a little artsy. Whether you like to paint, draw, make music, dance or build, use this time to rekindle your inner artist or put pen to paper. If you’re running low on supplies, try ordering these online.

Just remember to breathe through all of this. Making these small efforts will help to flatten the curve and get us all back to life as we know it sooner! This article is intended to provide general information of an educational nature only.
