The Junior Ranger Fun Day returns in 2017.

Friday 20 January, 2017.

The first Junior Ranger Fun Day of 2017 was held on Tuesday 17 January at Richley Reserve. The theme for the day was Aquatic Action which was fitting for the warm summer’s day. Junior rangers took their pick of free activities from art and craft to up close animal encounters and enjoyed the water slides to cool off.

One of the most popular activities was dip netting for critters down at the creek, junior rangers hopped between the rocks and sat at the edge of the creek to find what inhabits the waterways at Blackbutt Reserve. Others learnt about some of the reptiles housed at Blackbutt Reserve and their unique traits at the critter encounter and the snake display.

For those that wanted to enjoy being creative they could create an animal collage at the art & craft shelter, draw and colour in a black swan and use natural materials to make art with Nature Lovers. Aimed at primary school children, the Newcastle Permanent Junior Ranger Program provides free interactive and educational fun days each school holidays.

The Junior Ranger Fun Days teach children about the beauty and wonder of our natural habitat through fun, interactive activities.
