That’s a wrap for the first half of Cinema Under the Stars

Wednesday 18 December, 2019

Our 13th season of Newcastle Permanent’s Cinema Under the Stars hit the road on 1 November 2019 to deliver another jam-packed season of family-friendly entertainment for regional communities throughout New South Wales.

Over 4,000 community members came together in November across our Ballina, Lismore, Maitland and Mudgee events to enjoy what is now Australia’s largest free regional outdoor cinema program of its kind.

Each event showcased incredible local and regional music talent with our headline artist, Luke Ligtenberg, captivating audiences with his unique blend of blues, folk and soft surf rock.

We also hosted a range of fun games and activities for the kids and when the sun went down the big screen came to life for feature films Beauty and the Beast (2017) and Home Alone.

Our much-loved community mascot, Herbie, also made his way across our regional footprint for the very first time, making countless new friends along the way!

Unfortunately the recent bushfire crisis hit with no warning and forced the cancellation of our Port Macquarie event just a couple of hours before kick-off, and our Tamworth and Armidale events were rescheduled due to forecasted poor weather conditions. Luckily, we’ve been able to reschedule our Tamworth and Armidale events to February 2020 and look forward to visiting these communities then.

As the New Year draws closer, we’re busy planning the remaining nine events which will close our 13th season of this much-loved community event.

Our program will resume on 10 January 2020 and we’re excited to feature three new release blockbuster films throughout January and February – Toy Story 4, Aladdin (2019) and The Lion King (2019) – which we know will delight all ages.

So gather your tribe, pack your picnic and join us at one of our upcoming Cinema Under the Stars events. You can view the full schedule and find out more here.

As a customer-owned organisation, Cinema Under the Stars is just one of the ways we’re giving back to the communities that support us.
