For more than 62 years the Newcastle and Hunter Combined Schools ANZAC Commemorative Event has provided a unique platform for local hunter students to learn about the sacrifices made by Australian service men and women and present a moving performance based on these local stories.
Newcastle Permanent has supported the Combined Schools ANZAC Event for more than 13 years and as the major partner of the 2017 event we value this important education initiative and the opportunities the event offers the younger generations to learn about the ANZAC legacy.
If your school is interested in learning more about the event please contact Michael Voorbij at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The event is organised by a sub-committee of ten year 11 students from Government, Catholic and Independent schools. The students are involved in researching the incredible stories of the ANZACS and the production of the event is always delivered to a high standard.
The 2017 theme is the Great War- Australian Bravery and Battles in Belgium focusing on the Australian involvement in Belgium on the Western Front during the Great War. In particular the event will concentrate on the 1917 Battle of Passchendaele and Wallsend born soldier Captain Clarence Smith Jerries who was a Victoria Cross. The first event is held at Civic Theatre Newcastle on Tuesday 4 April and the second at Civic Theatre Singleton on Thursday 6 April.
The event is targeted to a student audience from Years 5 to 9. Schools are invited to attend the two performances on a first come first served basis managed by the Committee.
This package has been developed for schools to extend their learning of the event. Download a PDF copy of the package.
