Not-for-profit and charity organisations impacted by the NSW flood disaster, or who are providing support to communities recovering from the flood crisis, are encouraged to apply for a special Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation Flood Response Grant Round, totalling up to $100,000.

“We know so many organisations that help others across the flood impacted parts of NSW have lost resources or need support to aid the physical and mental flood recovery effort in these towns,” said Jennifer Leslie, Chair of the Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation Board.

“Our Charitable Foundation is responding by making up to $100,000 worth of funding grants available to not-for-profits and charities who themselves need a helping hand so they can continue to support locals on the long road to recovery.

“The Charitable Foundation strongly encourages impacted charities and not-for-profits, as well as those who make an impact within their local community, to apply for this vital funding by the April 13 deadline,” Jennifer added.

The additional ring-fenced $100,000 in available grants for flood-affected regions comes on top of the three quarters of a million announced as part of the Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation Grant Funding Round.

“In total there is now $850,000 worth of funding available to support local community-based organisations who need funding for projects that aim to address key areas of disadvantage, who are flood impacted, or are supporting the flood recovery effort across regional NSW.”

“We know that many charities are facing additional challenges right now so the Charitable Foundation is extending our application closing date to Tuesday 20 April 2021 to give not-for-profit organisations added time to submit their application,” Jennifer said.

The Charitable Foundation has a long history of supporting regional communities, with its grant program having invested, since 2003, more than $22-million in 270 organisations who are making a real impact to the lives of people in need.

Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation Executive Officer Graham Batten said applying for a Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation funding grant is a simple process via an application portal accessed on our website, and a range of guidance materials is also available.

“We know there’s a lot of worthy programs looking for support, especially following the floods and the added challenges of the last year. We’ve made it as simple as possible for organisations to apply via our website where they’ll also find a range of guidance materials as well as information on virtual funding grant support workshops we will hold in coming weeks,” said Graham.

Each successful project is selected for its ability to make a meaningful difference for our communities’ most vulnerable people.

Twice a year the Charitable Foundation provides approximately $750,000 in funding for projects across regional New South Wales.

Applications open via the Charitable Foundation website from 17 March and, for flood impacted organisations, will now close on 20 April 2021. Other community organisations are encouraged to apply for the available $750,000 by the closing date of 13 April 2021, or seek an extension via our website.

 

Eligibility information:
To be eligible for funding, a group must be endorsed by the Australian Taxation Office as a Type 1 Deductible Gift Recipient and hold Tax Concession Charity status, be registered with the Australian Charities and Not-For-Profit Commission, and be a not-for-profit organisation which is charitable at law, and a legal entity such as an incorporate association of corporation.
