Tuesday, 24 November 2020

Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation was presented the Contribution to the Region Award at the 2020 Hunter Business Awards.

This Award, which is presented to an organisation that makes special contribution to the Hunter region, recognised the Charitable Foundation’s ongoing commitment and success in making a meaningful difference to the lives of those who are disadvantaged or marginalised throughout our local communities.

  • In 2020, the Charitable Foundation reached a monumental milestone in giving over $20 million in grant funding to community projects; $9.4 million of this has gone to supporting projects based in the Hunter including: The Next Step Mental Health Incubator project, which delivers more than 8,000 affordable mental health appointments to the Hunter community each year
  • Funding ‘NicView’ secure webcams in the Neonatal Unit at John Hunter Children’s Hospital allowing 500 parents and families each year to virtually watch over their premature babies while they are in hospital
  • The Kaden Centre’s Australian-first exercise-oncology service that now serves over 450 regular patients
  • Cancer Council NSW’s Transport to Treatment innovative online booking program, helping those affected by cancer easily access the treatment they need
  • A drought support partnership with nib Foundation and Upper Hunter Community Services which delivered $100,000 to drought affected communities
  • A COVID mental health partnership which reached over 750,000 people with targeted mental health and financial stress information Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation Chair, Jennifer Leslie, said it was a privilege to accept the award at the annual Award ceremony.

"Over the past 17 years the Charitable Foundation has developed and learnt as our community and the needs of its people, have developed. However, in each case our projects have shared our vision to help rewrite the future for local people in need.

"That vision is shared by our charity partners, of which there are now 270, and so our most heartfelt acknowledgement goes to them, their people and their volunteers. It is only through their work and passion for making a difference that our mission can be achieved.

"It is these long lasting and powerful community partnerships that define who we are and, as a perpetual foundation, we look forward to even stronger partnerships that will contribute to our safe, healthy and resilient community for generations to come." Jennifer concluded.
