Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation has announced funding grants totalling $821,000 for 11 community projects that will address community disadvantage, marginalisation and isolation across six regional areas of NSW.

Initiatives in community health and well-being outcomes will receive $157,000; almost $250,000 will facilitate projects targeted at improving the lives of disadvantaged and at-risk youth; and $415,000 will go towards supporting the social well-being of marginalised and isolated members of the community across the Hunter, Central Coast, Central West, North Coast, Northern Rivers and New England regions.

Today’s grants follows the Charitable Foundation’s announcement last month that $750,000 in funding would also be brought forward to support COVID-19-related initiatives. The Foundation conducts two funding rounds each year, totalling approximately $1.5 million, and the grants announced today were approved by the Foundation Board in March.

Charitable Foundation Chair, Phil Neat said the Board was committed to continuing its pivotal support role in these communities, which was now more important than ever during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The Charitable Foundation has a remarkably simply mission. That is, to help people who are disadvantaged, marginalised or isolated in our regional communities,” Phil said.

“Despite the challenges presented to our communities in the past six months, we remain committed to our mission to support regional charitable organisations that make our communities healthy, safe and more resilient.

“These underlying, everyday community needs have not gone away. It is just that they have now been magnified by the drought, bushfires and COVID-19.

“The Foundation Board is confident that these 11 new projects will have significant impact in communities across central, western and northern NSW and we look forward to working closely with our charity partners to support their passion to bring these projects to life,” Phil concluded.

Where possible, projects receiving the latest grant funding will begin immediately, while others will be implemented when social distancing measures ease.
