A $30,000 grant to New England disability provider Sunnyfield.

Tuesday, 21 March, 2017.

A $30,000 grant to New England disability provider Sunnyfield will more than double the number of people living with a disability who can access the ground-breaking FitAbility health and wellbeing program.

Our grant will allow Sunnyfield to expand the health and activity program from 75 to 180 people this year by purchasing new and upgrading existing equipment.

CEO of the Foundation, Graham Batten, said he was pleased the Foundation could help to extend a program with such important health benefits for people living with a disability.

“The Foundation’s grant will allow Sunnyfield to more than double the reach of its FitAbility program, which has been proven to increase health outcomes for members of our community who might otherwise miss out,” Mr Batten said.

“Programs like these make a significant difference, create social access for people with an intellectual disability and reduce barriers to inclusion, and we commend Sunnyfield for their initiative in developing and delivering the program.”

Sunnyfield CEO Caroline Cuddihy said the grant would change the lives of people in the New England region living with a disability by increasing engagement opportunities and improving their health.

“The FitAbility program has grown in popularity, which is a great thing, and the Foundation’s support of this project will allow Sunnyfield to continue to provide the program to an increased number of participants,” Mrs Cuddihy said.

The new equipment will be used for weekly volunteer-supported FitAbility fitness programs, monthly interagency sports days for participants from several local support agencies and an Annual Sports Day with people of varying abilities coming from across the New England region.
