Security tips for Internet Banking
Hoax emails are often generated overseas, and are sent in bulk. These emails usually ask the recipient to provide sensitive information such as your member number and access code by providing a link to a fake website, enabling thieves to collect your security details for later fraudulent use.
Usually the hoax email shows a fake website mimicking the ‘look and feel’ of Newcastle Permanent’s web site.
Minimise your chances of being caught out by a hoax
- Type ‘www.newcastlepermanent.com.au’ into your Internet browser to log on to Internet Banking.
Ensure that you are registered to receive the additional protection of VerifID on Internet Banking for your accounts.
- Change your access code on a regular basis.
- Treat all emails requesting personal log on information such as member number and access code with extreme caution.
- Immediately delete emails of unknown origin, no matter how innocent or provocative the subject headings sound.
- Keep your anti-virus and firewalls up-to-date and perform regular security scans of your computer.
