What is the Government Guarantee?
The Federal Government Deposit Guarantee scheme was initially announced on 12 October 2008. The Federal Government currently guarantees all deposit balances totalling up to and including $1 million per customer per institution (Banks, Building Societies, and Credit Unions) and the cap is changing to $250,000 from 1 February 2012.
