Newcastle Theatre Company
New Building (Theatre)
Newcastle Theatre Company (formerly Newcastle Repertory Club) is a major source of quality amateur theatre in the region. Formed in 1957 it presents seven major productions a year creating enormous opportunities for local writers, actors, directors and technicians (young and old).
The current theatre used by the company (located in De Vitre Street Lambton) is over 80 years old and is not able to be repaired to meet OH&S standards and fire safety standards. As such a new theatre is to be built.
Funds are being provided by the Foundation to assist the Theatre Company construct a new theatre on the existing site in Lambton. The total cost of this project is $1.2 million ($650,000 required to get to stage 1 lock up). Additional funds are being sought through corporate and philanthropic supporters such as ourselves.
The Company are unable to access any Council or State Government funding and are relying on an active fundraising campaign to raise the remaining funds to enable this project to become a reality.
The new facility is being designed to allow for multi-purpose use (other community groups), exhibition space and will seat 150 people for productions.
