Community Water Safety Program

Newcastle City Council has conducted a Schools Water Safety Program since 1969. In 2005 Newcastle Permanent agreed to become the major sponsor of an expanded Community Water Safety Program.

The aim of the program is to provide children, parents, teachers and community members with essential information directed at ensuring their security at beaches and pools.

Qualified council lifeguards present the students with invaluable guidance on staying safe while having fun in and around the water. The program conveys the importance of Council rules and regulations and also encourages confidence around water through an emphasis on participation.

This program is an ideal extension to Newcastle Permanent's support of water safety activities through its support of Surf Lifesaving.

In October 2006 the Community Water Safety Program was recognised at the NSW Water Safety Awards for its contribution to the community.
