As a modern mutual building society, with no shareholders, we are owned by and run for the benefit of our members.

For more than 100 years Newcastle Permanent’s philosophy has always been to put the needs of our members first and return value through excellence in products, service and community support.  In fact, we provide a member benefit each year that we call the “mutuality dividend”, which represents the financial benefit our members receive over and above the major banks through lower fees and charges, and better interest rates on deposits and loans. Last year this member benefit totalled more than $50,000,000.

To formalise our service commitment to our members we have developed a Member Charter which sets out the standards against which our performance can be measured by you. Click here to view our Member Charter. 

We are committed to providing all members with the same high quality service, whatever their needs. Some of the more specialised services and benefits we offer to our members outside of the Member Charter include:

  • Translation services for non-English speaking members; and
  • Closed captions on all of our television advertisements for hearing impaired.

Our Products

We seek to incorporate consideration of environmental and social aspects into product development procedures and we are developing new products that help members get what they want and also help the environment at the same time, such as a “green” car loan with optional carbon credits.

We are also currently developing an ethical banking policy which clarifies the types of business activities we will not support via the provision of loans and other banking services which conflict with our values.
