Wheels to the Future

Tamworth Family Support Service Inc (TFSS) supports families with dependent children to achieve greater independence and full potential, self reliance and dignified well being for the benefit of those individuals and the wider community. TFSS provides free support services to families in the Tamworth, Werris Creek, Quirindi, Manilla and Barraba areas. 

Funds were sought to purchase a 12 seater Ford VM Transit bus to transport socially and financially disadvantaged families from these areas. The vehicle will be used to:

• Transport disadvantaged families in the community to and from the range of programs/services TFSS offers;
• Transport children that are currently in Department of Community Services (DOCS) care to camps and to access visits with their parents; and
• Transport families escaping domestic violence.

Many of the disadvantaged families are living in isolated areas due to lower rent and as a result there is limited transport. TFSS assisted over 2,500 families in 2006/2007. It is anticipated that the number of families assisted this year will increase with the provision of a transport vehicle.
