Citizens Wildlife Corridors Armidale - August 2008

Walking Track Enhancement

Citizens Wildlife Corridors Armidale Inc (CWC) is a community group that was established in 1991. As a not for profit organisation, CWC encourages landholders on the Northern Tablelands to accommodate wildlife and use sustainable land use practices. CWC encourages landholders with grant subsidies to protect native remnant vegetation, build multipurpose wildlife corridors with indigenous vegetating and to link existing native bushland remnants

Funds were sought to prevent ongoing damage to a section of the Armidale Walking Track to stop erosion and damage to native vegetation being caused by trail bikes and 4WD vehicles. Our funds will be used to:

  • Purchase and erect 3 fences to restrict vehicular and motorbike entry to this section of the walking track, except for walkers and occasional authorised traffic, e.g. Rural Fire Service and the Armidale Dumaresq Council.
  • Purchase and plant native plants and trees to stop erosion and to enhance the landscape of the Armidale Walking Track.

Approximately 60 walkers will benefit from this project per day.
