About the Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation
A core philosophy of Newcastle Permanent is to make a meaningful contribution to the communities it serves. For over 100 years Newcastle Permanent has supported community projects and initiatives that benefit a broad cross section of the population in areas such as sport, education, cultural endeavours and community events.
In celebration of 100 years of operation Newcastle Permanent created the Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation ('Foundation') which commenced operation in 2004. The Foundation offers funding for projects, initiatives and causes that might otherwise not exist or be realised because of a lack of funding in the Hunter, Central Coast, Mid North Coast, New England and Northern Rivers regions. It is a simple philosophy that is at the heart of what being a mutual is all about.
The Foundation's origins lie in a dedicated funding pool provided by Newcastle Permanent. Working from that funding base, the Foundation uses Newcastle Permanent's financial expertise to grow that fund and generate an ongoing income stream that is used to support worthy community projects, initiatives and causes.
Approximately $1.5 million a year in cash disbursements are available for distribution to not-for-profit community organisations across the Hunter, Central Coast, Mid North Coast, New England and Northern Rivers regions. This level of funding is expected to increase over time.
To date the Foundation has supported more than 190 local community projects from Woy Woy in the south to Lismore and Ballina in the north with grants totalling $6.5 million.
The advent of the Foundation does not mean Newcastle Permanent will be reducing existing community support. This work will be in addition to our existing marketing and sponsorship activities and enable the organisation to extend the scope and reach of its support.
The Foundation represents a major commitment by Newcastle Permanent to the communities which it serves. That is something we are very passionate about.
